Donnington Grove Course Guides
As a recent addition to our website we have added an area where golfers can view our course guide.
The area is designed so that Golfers can see all the hole plans and information such as distance and par before they play on the course. The plan also includes several top tips for each hole to help you with your game. The course guides include a bird’s eye plan of the hole and its layout, as well as a photo of the course from the tee looking towards the flag. Golfers should be able to use this to plan their shots as well as seeing where they have gone wrong in the past.
Donnington Grove is also offering businesses the chance to sponsor one of its 18 holes. Donnington Grove Country club has one of the best courses in the area; a historic hotel; a great clubhouse, with a friendly environment; and really good practice facilities. Theses, together with its thriving membership, make it one of the busiest corporate and society gold venues in the area attracting over 15,000 visitors each year.

April Blue Skies Golfing
Welcome to Blue Skies April at Donnington Grove.
To celebrate the beginning of the golf season we are bringing you a series of special promotions and blog posts to help honour the April blue skies. The Donnington Golf course is in magnificent condition and there is no better time like the present, to brush up on your golf skills for the new season. There is only one place to be this April and that’s Donnington Grove Country club.
We are kicking this month off with a blog series, ‘Top 20 Golfing Tips’. This will be running throughout the month of April, so make sure you regularly visit the site to read the latest tips. There will also be posts regarding special April offers, promotions, competitions as well as Golf Club News. There will be one Blog post updated every day as well as content being added to our Blue Skies webpage.
We will also be launching a Donnington review section on the Blue Skies webpage. This is a place where people can read other customers reviews and experiences of Donnington Grove. Chaos in Newbury town centre
Police have closed a section of Newbury Town centre after a white tiger was seen parading the street. The rare breed of Tiger has been identified as Sasha, she is said to of escaped her escort truck after not being sedated properly. Sasha was on a long Journey from Colchester Zoo in Essex, to Bristol Zoo when her vehicle hit traffic on the M4. Commuters on their way to work who saw the incident described it as ‘surreal’ one lady said ‘It’s just not what you expect to see on your way to work, the truck in front of me’s door seamed to swing open with ease and then suddenly I was starring and this slightly confused Tiger’. Sasha has wondered from the M4 and found herself in the busy town of Newbury. Police officials have sectioned off the area and are waiting for vets to arrive on the scene to once again sedate Sasha.
This day out for Sasha is expected to be over by mid-day and traffic around Newbury is to return to normal. An elderly lady who spoke to us said ‘It’s chaos, I only popped into town to nip into Iceland then I found most of the roads are closed off.’ Another by passer said ‘If anything I feel sorry for the Tiger, all these people surrounding her, she’s probably really scared.’
Sasha will be safe in her new enclosure in Bristol this evening away from the bustle of Newbury and I’m sure she will have a well deserved sleep after her grand day out.
Donnington Grove in the Snow
Unfortunately the snow has meant that the clubs are gathering dust at the moment, unless you’ve booked to come in and take advantage of our indoor facilities. In the meantime, please enjoy some of the pictures taken by Gareth earlier in the week. Hopefully the forecasters are wrong and there will be no more snow today!

Beaujolais nouveau is a red wine made from Gamay grapes produced in the Beaujolais region of France. It is the most popular vin de primeur, fermented for just a few weeks then officially released for sale on the third Thursday of November.
I am sure you knew that but you may not have known this; every year on this day we run a Beaujolais themed golf day which is on the 19th November this year. The golf day consists of 18 hole team competition (best 2 scores from 4 to count) and includes Tea and Coffee with a bacon roll, ½ a bottle of Beaujolais Nouveau with your 3 course meal and an informal prize giving afterwards. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed teams and nearest the pin competitions.
To enter a team please fill in an entry form which can be found in the Proshop or you can download one on this page. Prices to enter are Members £25.00 per head and Non Members £39.50 per head.
Please check the notice board or website if you have entered the winter knockout competitions, the draw has been made and the play by date for the 1st round is 24th November, good luck.
If you are interested in a late entry to the night golf competition, it takes place on Saturday 31st, check the social noticeboard, there are limited places available.
The winter league starts again on the 29th of November with a fourball betterball competition to ease you in, entries sheets are on the noticeboard outside the changing rooms.
Two more dates for the diary; there is a poker night on Friday the 6th November which starts at 8:30pm and on the 5th December the Christmas Ball will take place in the hotel. Live music and Disco; tickets are £25 per head, check out the social notice board….don’t miss out!!!
We have a close relationship with Reading football club here at Donnington Grove and on Thursday 12th November there will be a Pro Celebrity Charity football match which should not be missed. England football greats and celebrities from film, sport and music will take on an All Star World 11. The Heroes Cup will be played in support of Help for Heroes charity. Donnington Grove about to embark on major refurbishment programme
Since the opening of the six new rooms in The Summer House which have received rave reviews, the next area that will be upgraded is the main hotel.
Last year we invested heavily in redecorating of our function rooms and as a result have experienced a noticeable increase in our conference activity.
The redecoration starts with the windows and then on to each bedroom. All the baths have been resurfaced and we hope to have the rooms finished by March next year.
Then we will tackle the public areas.
In addition, our 5 new Lake View rooms will be open by the New Year which will increase the number of bedrooms available to 30.
Christopher Strong, Donnington Grove’s General Manager said “These are exciting times for Donnington Grove because now, with the ability to offer our guests rooms of a much higher standard and more of them, a Championship Golf Course which already attracts huge appeal we are looking forward to a busy 2010″
Donnington Grove News Update
We will be opening our newest accommodation of 5 bedrooms (10 twin bedded) situated alongside the walkway to the 1st tee and overlooking the lake and practice facilities. The new block opens January 2010 and as the location suggests the views are magnificent.
This new block now known as the “LAKE VIEW CHALETS” are already attracting a great deal of interest and advance bookings for golfing breaks are brisk. Special rates apply for groups with over 16 players. Why not come along this winter and see for yourself how we can cater for your every whim……… Catering is always a talking point with many members and visitors. Our reputation for good quality food has brought us many a return visit and the resident chef will only be too pleased to discuss menus with you and your party.
The golf course itself remains probably one of the best in the Southern Region and has a challenge like no other. Many Pro golfers return to improve their game ready for the forthcoming tours that are so demanding at their level. The greens designed to USPGA standard are playable during the Winter Months, so no temporary greens, just the true putting surfaces you’d expect from a quality course.
Talking about parties!!!!! Don’t leave it too long to reserve a table in the restaurant for your Special Christmas Dinner or perhaps book a private party of your own for family and friends. We are here for you to enjoy the festive season in style.

Work is currently going on to increase the number of rooms at Donnington Grove and by next season there will be five more chalet type twin rooms with wonderful views over the lake and gardens.

This week sees the soft launch of the new Donnington Grove Blog. This area of the website is for visitors, golfers, customers and partners to learn more about Donnington Grove. We’re hoping to add regular new content to the blog and encourage feedback via our comments section; so if you have any ideas or would like to get involved please let us know.
New valet service available to guests and golfers…
Donnington Grove is in parnership with Platinum Car Valet who have set up a car valetting service in order that the golfers and hotel guests can have their cars cleaned during their golf round or stay over to a level that suits them. An Express clean starts at £9.00 through to The Platinum at £49 which is a complete valet service.
