Welcome everyone.

My year as Club Captain is now close to an end.

I would like to take this opportunity to say how much I have enjoyed my time as Captain and to give my thanks to those who have helped me along the way:

The team captains:
James Dawes- Hillman Trophy Captain (reaching quarterfinals)
Steve Clark – Scratch Foursomes Captain (winning division three)
Jon Millar – Captain of the Concorde Team and for all his work with the Concorde website.

Charlie, Dawn and all their staff  have always shown a positive attitude and all their help is much appreciated by me and all the committee.

Dave Knight and his team for their continuous commitment to keeping the course in great condition.  On Boxing Day I took a walk up to the Club to check the course and found Dave and Gareth out sweeping the snow off the greens, enabling the course to be kept open .  Gareth and Mark from the pro shop for their continuous support.

I have been very lucky with my committee who have been extremely hard working and supportive. A special thanks to Richard and Tim for getting the website up and running and keeping us all so well informed. Richard as my Vice Captain has done a fantastic job of overseeing all aspects of running the committee and Tim has shown terrific enthusiasm as Social Secretary. Also, thanks to Brenda Agutter who stepped up to take over the role of Treasurer from Gill Lane, who had been Club Treasurer for about six years. Gill has, however, continued providing some “back office” support to Brenda and the committee thanks her for this.

For anyone still not aware, the date of the Captain’s year of office has been moved from 1st January to 1st April. The Captain’s Drive-In will now be held on Saturday April 10th, so please save the date.

Last but not least I would like to express my appreciation to Lynn Turner, our Lady Captain, for her tireless work on behalf of the Ladies section and her invaluable help and support during the year.

Swings and Smiles/Chiltern & Thames Valley Air Ambulance – The Captains’ Charities.

I am pleased to report that through various fundraising events during the year we have raised approximately £7,500 to date.  Many thanks to all members for their generosity and continuing support for these worthwhile causes.

On behalf of the committee and myself I would like to wish you all an enjoyable golfing 2010. I wish Richard and Ann good luck in their year as Club Captain and Ladies Captain, respectively.

Geoff Kells

Club Captain 2009/10

Winter Knockouts reach the Finals stage

After a winter disrupted by snow and rain, the knockouts are about to be concluded. Squaring up against each other in the singles are Neil Coleman and Paul Bailes. As will be seen below, Paul scored 41 points and won Div 1 at the weekend in the monthly stableford. So, Neil will have to be on his game to take the title and get his name on the board. In the doubles Austin Stone and Gordon McNair (hole in one expert!) are due to play Luke Batley and Tom Wilkie, who came back from 3 down after 15 in their semi-final to win on the 19th hole! So, two great finals in store. Good luck to all participants and congratulations to them all for reaching the finals.
