Juniors Area
The Junior section of a golf club is very important. The juniors need guidance, encouragement and the opportunity to improve their skills through competition such that they may fulfill their potential and continue within the game to whatever level they aspire.
At Donnington Grove we have excellent facilities to attract junior members. Unfortunately, at present, our junior membership is very small, around twenty members, and we do not have a Junior Organiser.
Last year we wrote to the parents of our juniors asking if any might be interested in volunteering their time to help out with the juniors. Volunteer helpers would be involved in organising team events and helping with transporting junior competitors to and from matches. If anyone is interested please contact the Club Captain, or any committee member.
We are also keen to appoint a Junior Organiser who would act as the catalyst for the smooth running of the junior section, co-ordinating all the junior activities within the section. The role of the Junior Organiser is possibly one of the hardest roles, but it is also one of the most rewarding. Without the dedication and enthusiasm of junior organisers, the game of golf would not be where it is today. The Junior Organiser should be someone who carries out the role for the benefit of the junior section and should ideally be a volunteer from within the male or female adult membership. Continuity is very important in creating a strong junior section and the club would encourage anyone wishing to take on the role of Junior Organiser to commit themselves to at least two years. Anyone who can communicate with children, has a sense of fun, and possesses good organisational skills can be a junior organiser. Once again, if anyone is interested please contact the Club Captain, or any committee member. All volunteers would be subject to a CRB check. If you think you would like to help, or if you have any ideas on what the juniors want from the club please contact Richard Lomax.
Meanwhile, at the moment we have a Saturday morning junior clinic run by Matt Woods, Director of Instruction Jonathan Yarwood Golf Academy, and Gareth Williams, DG's Director of Golf. This is open to members and non members. Our aim is to encourage new junior members and to get a junior team playing in one of the local leagues.
The BB&O Golf Partnership has launched an expansion of its Junior Academy Programme with some of our existing juniors now taking part. This is aimed at boys and girls from 9 to 16 years. For more details click here or speak with Matt Woods if you are interested in taking your game as a junior to a higher level.

However, the home team made us all very welcome, and the meal afterwards was one of the best so far this season with a lamb shank main course followed by bread & butter pudding and ice cream. Who wouldn't wish to be a Senior with days like today!

Mixed Results for the Mixed Team v The Springs.

This year we seem to have been blessed with having lovely sunny weather for all our mixed matches and Sunday 25th July was no exception. DG were host to The Springs in a tightly fought match, which although unfortunately ended in a 2.5/3.5 loss for DG, was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Andy Ward, Jan King and Cliff Waller, Lesley Dixon won their matches and John Tonner, Sylvia Davis halved their match. We learned after the match that four of The Springs ladies are through to the Oxfordshire County Semi finals, so we thought we had done quite well.
