Who Is Vince Hanniffy?
I am the guy drinking Guinness in the bar and eating Andy’s “cheesy chips” on a Saturday. I am a keen sportsman who follows all sports, particularly football & horse racing, (as most people know). Golf however is my main addiction/habit  and a source of frustration and hilarity to my various playing partners.
I have played for many years and always enjoy the “camaraderie” of golf and the pleasure, (but nowadays more often frustration!), that a good round of golf can bring. After all, isn’t that what brings us back each week?.
If only we could all turn those “if only’s “ into what we intended to do then we’d all be on the Tour!!
Having lived for many years abroad, I played a lot of golf in Germany and got down to a handicap of 4. (Believe it or not I used to actually practice & work at it – Chipping Too).
When I returned to the UK I looked around the area to join a golf club, and after looking at several clubs in the area, as soon as I visited Donnington Grove I knew this was the course for me. The course is a stunning layout and a true test of golf.
Since joining, 5 years ago, the course has continued to “Beat me up”, but swear I’ll beat it one day!!!.
Why join the committee? A club is not just a matter of the course itself, it’s the members that make places “special”.  The members at our club are passionate and have strong opinions of how we would like to
see the course develop. They are the backbone of any good club and I felt I could assist in making their opinions heard to the right people.   I do believe that we are heading in the right direction and we should all be proud of the Club we have here.

Ball used - Srixon ZStar (or any “Brick” on a bad day)
Swing speed - Good medium pace, getting quicker as the club gets shorter
Golfing ambition - To get someone to teach me to chip! Also, to get my name on a the wall in a “boarded” comp.
In the bar - Cold Guinness and a bit of “craic”
Best golfing moment - Having a Hole in One (Not here though yet!!)
Most frustrating thing on a golf course - Holding players up playing behind (unless it’sAndy!)… and being Pin high in 2 and taking 4 more to get down.

Badgemore battered

Well, not really battered but our gallant seniors secured a 3 ½ – 2 ½ win at a wet and windy away fixture at Badgemore Park. We still don't know the punch line to Barry's joke but the food, the course and the company were all first class, as was the win.
Well done team,
Ed

Interclub Result - apologies for late press release!!!!

Although the second inter-club match took place at home to Weybrook Park last month, which resulted in another win for our Donnington boys,  the following report has only just been received today. Rumour has it that the reason for this is that the interclub captain has been kept busy tasting more pies!!

Here is the report of the Weybrook match.

Well done lads - keep it up!!

Parasampia Bogey Results!!!

Please find the attached results from Saturday's Parasampia Bogey Competition!

With only 3 players actually managing to beat the course, you would have to say that the course definitely had the very upper hand this year!

Congratulations to Malcolm Kingham for winning the men's section with a very narrow victory on countback from the ever consistent Greg Humphries - for all of the men's results click here.

Also, a very big well done to Ann Macdonald who had a slightly bigger winning margin when coming first in the ladies section - for a full list of the ladies results click here.

An up to date handicap list following this weekend's event can also be found by following this link.

Seniors welcome visitors from South Island

Folks on the Isle of Wight refer to our location as the North Island. We did make the visitors from Cowes welcome, but sent them home with no change from a 10 man match. The result 5-0 to the North Island.
That makes it 9 wins so far this season but now the away matches start...
