Treasurer Biography

Brenda Agutter
Treasurer

As the new treasurer of Donnington Grove I am responsible for looking after your money and that of the Captain's chosen charities. Our income arises from the competition match fees and any profit that we make is spent or reserved for the benefit of the members. Examples of expenditure include the Competitions Touch Screen, Competition Boards and funding the Clubhouse Grand Opening in 2008.

I have enjoyed membership of Donnington Grove for 12 years or so, joining as a rooky golfer and having only started golf late in life, at Deanwood. I have to say that in those days I was totally daunted by the prospect of playing our course. We used to play early Saturday mornings when we would sometimes meet the odd “DB” or two in the old Halfway Hut (I used to naively think that DB stood for Donnington Brothers)! I never saw another lady on the course - thankfully things have changed since then.

Thank goodness that my golf has improved since those days but I still find it difficult to play to my handicap. Since retiring I find it much more convenient to be a 5 day member as the course is far less crowded during the week and I am not especially interested in competitive golf - probably why my handicap remains so stubborn! However as we have such a small, but very special, ladies section I am often able to participate in, and enjoy, the Ladies Interclub friendly matches. I am always pleased and proud to host other ladies to the club as I consider our course to be second to none in the area!

My favourite hole has to be the 8th - what a fantastic feeling it is when you get a good drive away and then walk over the crest of the hill to see your ball sitting in the middle of the fairway with the beautiful backdrop of the Kennet Valley. However the 8th is closely followed by the 14th with its’ lovely views of Donnington Castle and the hotel.
