Why You Shouldn’t Wait till the Spring and Summer Months to Play a Round at

Nestled in 500 acres of picturesque countryside, The Donnington Grove Estate offers some of the most exquisitely picturesque views in Berkshire – or indeed anywhere in the UK. With a championship-standard course, we entertain thousands of avid, scratch – and novice golfers every single year.

Yet, despite the immaculately-presented golf course and much-lauded facilities, complemented by a friendly and welcoming clubhouse and superior accommodation which, all-in-all, make the Donnington Grove Estate one of the best golf courses in Berkshire, we often find the course at its busiest in the spring and summer months.

Should you elect not to play a round of golf at our impeccable course and facilities, you’re really missing out. Sure, in the height of the winter season, conditions may not be ideal, but that’s no reason to not grab your golf back and tee up. Annual memberships last a full twelve months – you shouldn’t let the winter weather deter you from hitting the fairways for a full third of the year!

In Praise of Winter Golf

A quick browse online and you’ll discover articles in favour of, or praising winter golf – and for good reasons. Many avid golfers love the camaraderie of winter golf. Testing conditions, relaxed expectations, the motivation to defy the howling winds and scattered showers are a great test of a golfer’s mettle.

Not only that, winter affords golfers great opportunity to test your equipment to the limits. After all, what’s the point of spending hundreds of pounds on the latest waterproofs or Gore-tex lined shoes only to discover the offer sub-par performance. Surely, testing equipment of all kinds in the harsh weather conditions is the sternest test you can perform!

Battling through the winter elements only to record a favourable –even exemplary score – can be a most satisfactory achievement. Adjusting your positing to account for a biting wind, or accurately measuring an undulating green, factoring in any dampness on the green before sinking a put for a par or that elusive birdie gives golfers a tremendous sense of accomplishment.

What about those golfers determined to knock a point or two off their handicap? Well, you can toil away all summer long, but optimal conditions give you optimal chance of scoring well. It’s when the chips are down, and you’re faced with a challenge, that a golfer’s true measure of their ability shines through. Scoring well in blustery conditions and wet weather demands shot adjustments.

Even the very best of golfers must adapt to, not only the demands of the course but, the conditions. The more you adapt, the more accomplished golfer you’ll become. It’s that simple.
