Testimonials

May 2016

Jacqui's wedding dress was bought from a shop called Cloud 9, but I am not referring to that.  I am referring to to the wonderful attention to detail and service given by you and the other members of the hotel - you have left us on CL 9.  It was a most fantastic week-end and in particular the wedding day.  There are no faults to be found.  The location and the building, but most importantly your efforts and every member of the hotel staff.

There has been nothing but praise from our guests and several instances where a member of staff has gone that extra mile.  Every one smiling, helpful, mega polite and an absolute joy.

The food on both days was marvelous, The whole experience was wonderful.

We are just leaving for Vienna, will contact you when I am back.

Best wishes

Cresswell & Jacqui

"We had a great trip thanks, course was great, hotel and clubhouse also.

We were well looked after, worth noting if you didn't know - they offer clay shooting on site at good rates which we took advantage of Saturday morning.

Thanks,

From Trip Advisor - March 2015

Donnington Grove is a golfer's hotel, no doubt with profitable corporate and occasion activity on the side. If it sounds like criticism to say that it's not really a destination for an escape, then read on, because any carping would be unfair.
I used a Living Social voucher for my stay and an incredible bargain it was. The initial impact is historical. DG is a genuine Georgian pile, sitting amid magnificent grounds, incorporating a golf course. Then the most joyous words in travel and accommodation i.e. 'you have been upgraded' further lifted my spirits at check-in, but the subsequent 50 step grind to the 3rd floor room (yes, I'm sad enough to have counted them), through twists and turns and fire doors, somewhat reduced the thrill. Still, the allocated space, room 303, was enormous and generously equipped, as was the excellent en suite. The bay window view, over the lake, was gorgeous.
The room and, indeed, the entire hotel, was spotlessly clean and maintained, but I came to hate the stairs and seriously considered establishing a hermitage and ordering in takeaways. Consideration for the delivery staff made me resist this unworthy thought and just as well: the meals served here, either in bar or restaurant, are terrific. Descending a further 20 stairs (sorry) to share the dining room and breakfasting with the massed ranks of sweaty golfers is less so, but that's what might be construed as criticism. It isn't really, because I recognise that an hotel with a golf course attached is going to attract golfers, but that's what makes it more a sporting venue than the four star hostelry it should be.
And that's what creates the paradox that is this hotel: the attractive rural acreage, helpful staff, immaculate furnishings, thoughtful catering and evident accomplished premises micro-management put it alongside the best of country hotels, but the reliance on income from folks with sticks and spikes, sits uncomfortably with the usual hotel guest, already discomfited by the lack of a lift, lounge or library. Investment and/or separation of activities might be an answer, but I can imagine the huge cost involved is off-putting for the owners. Truth is, I don't know if there is a solution, or even if it needs one.
After all, my memories of my stay are more than warm and if there is a superior welcome available in the hotel industry, I haven't found it, even if I haven't found an earlier check-out time than the 10-30am one here, either!. On the whole, well done, Donnington Grove.  Marlow UK March 2015

I attach my report from Donnington where overall we had a great time except for rain on Day 2. This is the third year in a row that we have had to curtail the second round because of bad weather !!!

One of our chaps cancelled at the last minute and I had an email dialogue with your colleague Bradley Smith about compensation. I managed to speak with Nigel Green the General Manager and he very kindly offered a complimentary green fee voucher for 4 people to make up for the loss suffered by Roger Williams from our group.

I can honestly say that the food in the restaurant was as good as the best restaurants in our area including the Chewton Glen !!! The chef at Donnington is a culinary wizard.
