Twin-towered Donnington Castle is an impressive 14th century fortification that sits right on the edge of our grounds. As you explore you’ll encounter impressive earthworks and the remains of a wider castle floorpan beside the towering gatehouse.
Excitement, action and a small wager or two - little beats a day at the races in Newbury. This historic course has been thrilling the crowds since 1905. Offering 29 fabulous fixtures each year, it’s under four miles from Donnington Grove.
Just a 50 minute drive from Donnington Grove, 11th century, Windsor Castle is the oldest and biggest occupied castle in the world. The Queen is the latest of 39 monarchs to make it her home. A 30 minute drive takes you to 18th century Basildon Park – an elegant mansion that was destined for destruction after being requisitioned by the armed forces in WWII. The carefully restored Palladian house is managed by the National Trust and features a wealth of Old Masters paintings and fine furnishings, plus an elaborate hall and a stunning staircase.
One of the UK’s most successful regional producing theatres, the Watermill Theatre is an intimate venue that stages award-winning shows. Set in a converted watermill beside the River Lambourn, it’s less than 2 miles away from Donnington Grove.
The seventeen murals at Sandham Memorial Chapel were painted by war artist Stanley Spencer to honour the forgotten dead of the First World War. Just 7 miles from Donnington, they were inspired by Giotto's murals in the Arena Chapel in Padua and by Spencer’s time serving on the Macedonian front.
Run by the Trust for Sustainable Living, the Living Rainforest is home to 850 species of plants and animals. The centre sees you experiencing the atmosphere of a lush tropical rainforest - complete with intense sights, sounds and smells. It’s just 10 miles from Donnington Grove
A 7 minute drive from Donnington takes you to the centre of Newbury. This attractive market town has a large market square at its core, complete with a medieval Cloth Hall, half-timbered buildings and a 15th century church. The streets are packed with independent shops and High Street names.
